The term 'BDSM' in the RP community has become something of a cliche which I want to avoid in this instance. I feel

like too many teenage writers have taken it to mean non-con, violence, and 'bad guys taking advantage of sweet cinnamon rolls'.

Ugh.

Power Play & Exchange is meant to convey the idea that both parties are consenting and enjoying what's happening, that one

party is willingly giving up control in some form or fashion and agreeing to what's happening to them. That doesn't mean it can't be rough, of course, or that there can't be humiliation, bondage, etc. It just means both characters (and writers) are agreeing to it.

Non-con is another kink altogether.

An understanding of Dominant/submissive dynamics in mature relationships (i.e beyond corny pornos and anime comics).

Someone who is ok with characters who might have an ongoing shift in power control, i.e "switches", or just a relationship that isn't always kinky?

An understanding that "Dom" does not always equal "top", or that "sub" does not always equal "bottom" - the two aren't mutually exclusive.

I'm looking for people who are knowledgeable about these terms, and who are able to play them convincingly in a way that isn't pure cliche.

I enjoy both consensual and non-consensual play for RP with BDSM elements, but would like a clear distinction between the two when agreeing to play. Thanks!

It might help to know that I'm into Power Exchange and BDSM in real life! Look up "real life" BDSM stuff if you've never done so - there's a huge difference between that and the fantasy-porno-comic book type stuff.
